Subject:  Annual Review of the Availability of Military Unique Fasteners (INFORMATION)

New Information:

• DCMA has been directed by memorandum to report to USD(AT&L) on the availability of military unique (non-COTS) fasteners that are exempt from 10 USC 2533b, Specialty Metals Restrictions based on the Class Determination of Domestic Non-Availability for Fasteners.
• The Specialty Metals Engineering Support Activity will conduct a review later this year and our report will be forwarded to USD(AT&L) in February 2008.
• If the review finds that compliant sources of military unique fasteners are available, the DNAD will be rescinded.
• Existing contracts that rely on that DNAD for acceptance will not be affected by rescission of the DNAD.  However, future contracts will require compliant military unique fasteners.
• This information is applicable to Specialty Metals Clause Compliance Interim Instruction.
